LYNX-DEV screen size and display problem

The above was a problem when I ran 'mutt'. I found out that lynx also has
the same problem. Other programs worked fine: elm, vim, mc, less, etc...
Native programs also worked fine.  Various curses libraries were also tried:
curses, slang, ncurses. What could be the problem ?
