Re: LYNX-DEV screen-refresh: why so often? MY fault?

Just saw a post about lynx needing a screen refresh in some
patch -- which reminded me of prior question I posed of why
does Lynx do so many screen-refreshes, and to which I never
got an answer.

When I use eg VI, and change something on the screen, the
ENTIRE screen DOESN'T get cleared and then refreshed --
VI (or something) is clever about making the minimal changes,
using features of the terminal, etc, so it is FAST, so fast
it is not even noticable (the redrawing of necessary parts,
shifting of lines up or down, etc).

Also true with emacs, etc.

So, WHY does EVERY change to the screen in Lynx cause an
redraw (slow) of the ENTIRE screen? Have I not set some
variable correctly? (VI etc seem to know what kind of
terminal I have!)

Even entering a search string (for "/") that FAILS causes
a complete redraw, maybe three or so seconds, also disturbing
to the eyes.

So, not just for me, but for the doc for new users, what causes
this, and what is a way around it? (Or does EVERYONE experience
this, not just me?)

I mean Lynx is the ONLY program I know that has this slow, super
brute-force way of updating the screen. VI, trn, etc, all used
even via phone-to-internet-provider, update the screen almost
instantly (eg cleverly, eg MUST therefore know what kind of
terminal I have ("sun")) -- so, what's different about Lynx?

This has been a problem with and without SLANG.

Thanks!

   Confused.
