Are you really asking this question:

Is there a way that lynx could be enhanced so that once you start a download,
you could then go on and down web browsing while the download occured in the
background?

Or is the question:

Is there a way that lynx could be enhanced so that, in interactive mode, a
user could specify the download file name, start the download, and when the
download successfully completes, the file is saved without further intervention?
This way a user doesn't have to be remember to check in periodically to
perform the save.

The modifications for these two questions are quite different.
