LYNX-DEV updating http://lynx.browser.org/

From: Al Gilman
Subject: LYNX-DEV updating http://lynx.browser.org/
Date: Sun, 9 Mar 1997 11:18:18 -0500 (EST)

I have put a draft revision for the page which appears at
http://lynx.browser.org/ up on my site at
http://www.access.digex.net/~asgilman/lynx/infra/lynx-home.html .

This should not be installed before the address@hidden
auto-responder is working. In addition there are various
judgement calls in this rewrite on which I would like to invite
comment.

CHANGES:

The news banner about the DJGPP port has been removed.
     - I regard this as of less interest to readers at large
than the Win32 version at this time, which is
          also still "alpha."
     - Still trying to keep this page short and sweet
          i.e. 80X24

The "Lynx friendly" decoration has been suppressed.
     - This may be a generational issue. I find the animation
irritating. I think that people use Lynx in part because it pays
attention _to you_, and is not squirming on your computer screen
demanding that you pay attention to it. I don't think we
communicate the attractions of Lynx to potential users with a
        blinking GIF like this.

Although the flow-through from the address@hidden is to
Lynx-dev, I have removed the "read the archives" from this page.
I still mean that there should be leads to the archives for those
that pursue things from the pages at Lynx links and elsewhere.

I think that the new list hits the high spots. Whaddya think?
