Did you perhaps mean to say:

Because I've seen reports on comp.lang.unix and elsewhere regarding the fact
that signal _numbers_ change from OS to OS, and sometimes from release to
release
within an OS, but that the mnemonics, at least as defined in the SVID or
POSIX, won't change.
