They don't come out as anything on Netscape, but one of them seems to be
an apostrophe, and another some kind of emphasis.  Other sequences
starting with the ampersand are rendered, so there is processing done.

It might be good to have a settable "eat unknown special char sequences"
mode, so these either didn't appear at all (like netscape seems to render
them), or as a space or another character.
