Have you tried the development version (available from
http://www.slcc.edu/lynx)? It has a better support for various non-latin-1
charsets, inlucing the posibility to set your Display character set to
what it actually is without any trouble, because the document gets
"translated" to the display character set. Send your thanks to Klaus
Weide.
Few general hints for using the development code with cyrlilic/east
european encodings (substitute Windows-1250 with Windows-1252 and koi-8-r
with CP852 or ISO-8859-2):
* use lynx -assume_charset koi-8-r (or Windows-1252), the charsets the
unmarked documents are in
* set your Display character set to whatever you have (KOI-8-R or
Windows-1252) in the Options screen. You don't need to use the IBM PC
Character set anymore, no more Transparent character set setings etc.
* if you see any trouble, the '@' key might help. It togless the 'rawness'
of the displaying there and back.
* it's useful to have your preffered character set and language. Some
servers react to it well, some don't. I use this for ISO-8859-2 and
czech language:
preferred document lan(G)uage: cz,en
preferred document c(H)arset : ISO-8859-2
Scott, how about addingg this to the FAQ?
