LYNX-DEV Determining the Lynx version

Subject: LYNX-DEV Determining the Lynx version

   Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I wonder, is there a way to determine the version of Lynx one is running
if it's not telling that in the Information Page. One of the systems I have
to use runs an ancient version of Lynx, but I can't determine which one
exactly. The system in question is a restricted-access one. It doesn't give
one a normal shell, only a captive menu, from which Lynx is run
automatically. One can't give it a command line, and in fact, I don't even
know which command line is used (but certainly a highly-restricted one). If
I press '=', it says "YOU HAVE REACHED THE INFORMATION PAGE" without
disclosing its version number. Help doesn't work either (apparently it's
not installed locally and the remote location is long outdated). I have
thought of examining the X-Mailer headers in messages sent via mailto:
URLs, but for some unknown reason (misconfiguration?) sending mail doesn't
work. Does anyone know other ways?
I have also thought of examining the User Agent string. It's not in the
Options, so I'll have to somehow discern what it's sending to HTTP servers.
Does anyone know a server that can tell me what User Agent string a browser
is sending?

   Sincerely,
   Michael Sokolov
