LYNX-DEV Is this the cost of doing the web?

My current lynx 2.7.1+fotemods+ncurses+color, compiled with -g (since
when aborts do occur, not having the debug version was annoying) weighs in
at 3.5 meg on Solaris 2.5.1.

Is lynx just going to continue growing like this?  
I am not sure what alternatives there are in a cross platform development
environment such as lynx is currently operating.  However, the larger lynx
grows, the slower (on my system anyways) it is to start up.  At the point
at which it's faster to use some other tool (chimera for instance is 400k)
usage will begin to slack off.
