LYNX-DEV posting to news from lynx

Hello

I am trying to post to news using LYNX and haven't been able to get all the 
pieces in place to pull that off.

I can read news from LYNX ok and I have defined the NNTPSERVER and I set the
NEWS_POST variable to TRUE in lynx.cfg.  LYNX goes through the motions of
doing
a post but it never allows me to enter a username and password for
authentication.
I just get a message that says  "480 authentication required for command". 

What am I missing to get the authentication portion working is there
something 
more in LYNX I must set to get this going??
