Bryan,

You haven't told us yet how you access Lynx (dialup to shell account?
telnet? running lynx on own machine?), and what program you are using for
that, or what OS you are using. Or what terminal type you are using. So
it is difficult to guess what exactly is the problem.

You did mention in an earlier mail that you have this problem with three
different ISPs. If that means you have tried it with three different
installations of Lynx running on different shell machines, then it is very
likely that the problem is not with Lynx, but with the software (I assume
a terminal emulator) you are using to access those accounts. Some comm
software claims to emulate a vt100 term but does a bad job of it.

If that is the case, you may want to try some other comm program,
especially if manipulating terminfo or termcap files on the machine(s)
where Lynx runs is not your cup of tea. Try Kermit (<URL:
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/>), or some other comm program which
provides vt100 emulation.

Is this an exact copy of what is on your screen? (and is it a screen, or
in a window?) Even the first line should not appear like that, it should
be indented by several spaces from the left. Also those asterisks may not
really be asterisks, but the DOS codepage (i.e. VGA font) character for
Control-O which looks similar.

Well it shouldn't be that difficult to find lynx.cfg, especially if you
have three different ISPs to look for it (or ask them where it is!). But
I doubt that you will need it for this problem/

Here the problem seems a bit different since there are no asterisks that
shouldn't be there. (It's a UL not an OL, so Lynx displays a "*" for each
item.)
