LYNX-DEV hmm. &lt bug?

I was in the midst of putting a page up that relies heavily on < and >
characters, so I ran a filter through the original text document and
replaced < with &lt and > with &gt.

If there was text that was formatted as: (examples)
formatted as displayed as

&ltnot playing&gt &ltnot playing>
&lt not&gt < not>

It appears to me that if there's an &lt and immediately following, a
space, the < is displayed. if there's an &lt and not a space, it displays
as &lt instead of <. I've had no problems with &gt, but I'm assuming the
same thing would happen if I were to want to display &gtnot&lt as >not<

I viewed the page using (ugh) Netscape and (double ugh) IE, and everything
displays correctly. PLease advise.

thanks

mike
