the more common reason for not including ide files is that they tend to
be too dependent on the user's particular configuration (though some
recent ide's try to accommodate, they still require tinkering when you
change the directory assumptions).

plus, they're only suitable for the particular ide, and are generally
not human-readable (so they're a waste of diskspace when compared to a
properly constructed makefile).
