Does this also happen if you trick Lynx/DJGPP by other methods (run
SLIP8250 on an unused COM port, run it on a modem without dialing in, have
a network card but no network attached, etc.)? If this effect doesn't occur
with other methods, I'll look and see what I can change in my null packet
driver gadget to make it disappear.
