I was partially responsible for Emacs-W3's table implementation and I test it frequently on various real sites. I can tell you that Emacs's auto-show-mode (which scrolls the screen horizontally when the cursor moves off the edges) was a real saviour and without it the table support would be much less useful. In fact I think Emacs-W3 now turns on auto-show-mode by default now. The problem is primarily that things like image alt tags and URLs cannot be broken mid-word. And the table auto-sizing algorithm always makes columns wide enough for the widest word in the column. Most sites I see end up over 80 columns but are usable precisely because of horizontal scrolling. Another area horizontal scrolling would be nice would be in the source viewing page. There if there's a long URL as far as I know there's no way to read it in Lynx. You have to save it to a text file and open it up in your editor. greg
