I have tried this and still am not able to get it to work.

I am using lynx development version 111. I am compiling on a
SPARC/Solaris 2.5.1/Sun compiler cc 4.2/ncurses 4.1+patches thru Jan 31.
I am using Sun's xterm, with this terminfo entry:

# Reconstructed via infocmp from file: /usr/local/lib/terminfo/x/xterm

I am using
./configure --prefix=/projects/intranet/ --libdir=/projects/intranet/lib/lynx/
--enable-externs --enable-nsl-fork --with-screen=ncurses --with-zlib

I have, in my installed version of lynx.cfg,
USE_MOUSE: TRUE

There no longer appears to be a configure option for telling the code to
build - apparently if you use ncurses (which I am) that happens automatically.

Yet, pressing the left mouse button my lynx does nothing.

I suspect this is a terminfo situation. However, I am not certain.

Perhaps if particular terminfo attributes _are_ required info about
that could be added to the lynx.cfg file or a new document file?
