read my comments in function "put_special_unicodes";
we may try to limit "A number of places" via invoking this function.
I correct that (partly) in dev code recently and I am sure in.

Really we need a separate function "restore_special_unicodes"
with the parameters `hidden' and `plain_space'
and use it as a pair to put_special_unicodes.
("restore" done in lycharutils.c and "put" seems only in sgml.c).
