sorry - I know that I've seen some patches (e.g., from XFree86 do this),
but normally I do not use that option (the 'makepatch' script does not
generate empty files, which could be exploited by 'patch -E', but instead
it generates a short script at the front of the patch -- but that's not
apparent when you read one of my patches, since that is obscured by the
'diffstat' listing.

(I read all patches first, to see what should be done).
