LYNX-DEV 2.8pre.2 clean on SCO OpenServer

I built 2.8pre.2 on SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.4, with SCO's compiler,
as follows:

  $ CC='cc -belf' CFLAGS='-O3 -Kspace' ./configure --enable-nsl-fork
  $ make

There were no errors or even warnings in compilation -- very clean. Oh,
there was one warning from `make` right at the beginning: "No suffix
list." Removing the ".SUFFIXES:" line from the makefile fixes this.
What is it there for?

The resulting binary, stripped, is 982148 bytes. Here are sizes of a
number of Lynx binaries over the last 2 years:

  -rwx--x--x   1  560536 Jul 22  1996 /u/filbo/bin/lynx-2-5FM-96-07-19
  -rwx--x--x   1  596448 Sep 13  1996 /u/filbo/bin/lynx-2-6
  -rwx--x--x   1  666908 Feb  8  1997 /u/filbo/bin/lynx-2-7-PRE
  -rwx--x--x   1  775848 Mar 22  1997 /u/filbo/bin/lynx-2-7ac-0.31
  -rwx--x--x   1  836956 May 13  1997 /u/filbo/bin/lynx-2.7.1ac-0.23
  -rwx--x--x   2  982148 Mar  4  1998 /u/filbo/bin/lynx-2.8pre.2

It certainly hasn't doubled since 2.7; perhaps 50% growth; 65% since 2.6.
