I got 2.8pre.3, it works out of the box here (uses libHcurses).
I installed Tom's autoconf patches, edited aclocal.m4 to swap tests for
libcur_colr and libHcurses, and tried again to see what happens there.
Note that there is no libcur_color on this system, it's -lcur_colr.
Not sure why. There is a /usr/lib/terminfo_colr which has entries for
{hp,}239{2,2A,2a,3}, X-hpterm, hpex, hpterm, vt{10,32}0{,-am,-nam}, and
wy{se,}60.
In any case, using it produces no color, and no mono attributes either,
in various combinations of color and mono terminal, $TERM setting, and
color options menu setting.
I can send my config.log if someone wants it.
The libcur_color test should either be fixed to libcur_colr or deleted
altogether. It should _not_ precede the libHcurses test as was
suggested earlier, as it seems to be somewhat non-standards-compliant.
That's probably why they named it so oddly.
