You mean JavaScript; don't forget that JavaScript has nothing to do
with Java.  It's also worth noting that graphical browsers with
javascript turned off will not see anything, either.

It's especially silly, because all this page does is stuff its html
content into a javascript variable and then write out the variable.  I
don't know what they're trying to accomplish here:  client-side
selection of a random image?  I'm sure that could have been done much
less intrusively.

My guess would be that this is the output of some particularly
misguided authoring tool, though normally those identify themselves.
If it was manually done, I bet Fnord payed a lot for it.
