Odd: I tried this with pre.3 (which I had installed), and got a core dump
under this scenario. But I'd stripped the binary, so it was no good for
debugging.
So I rebuilt with dev.3 to debug it, but found no problem (I'll check again
with rel.2, but don't know of any reason for this to change).
