Oh, I get it.

   The problem there is just that Lynx caches things by their URL,
and the source and rendered versions have the same URL, so it just 
clears the cached copy when you switch.  You'll notice that if you 
put it in source mode, look at a page, go to another, put it in 
rendered mode, then activate a link to the first page, that page will 
show up in source form.  There is probably some way around this...
but I'm not sure.
