I have a problem understanding why people hope that old versions of Borland
compilers will remain valid. Borland stopped selling those versions, and
essentially no longer supports them. I have a recent Borland C++ Builder
that is as different from earlier 3.x and 4.x Borland C/C++ compilers as
you can imagine, yet is still faintly recognizable as a Borland compiler.

Only problem is that it simply won't recognize or reuse earlier Borland
makefiles. As near as I can tell, the only reason for continuing to use
an earlier Borland compiler is if it does 16-bit or win32s code, so that
you can test recent releases of lynx for backward compatibility.
