first, get 2-8 from  www.slcc.edu/lynx/release/ : 2-6 is  2 yrs  out of date.
second, it's not clear what/if you mean (by) "shell TO Lynx",
but when it is in the middle of grabbing material from out there
you can terminate that process with  z ;
you can create a new shell using  ! , returning with  exit ;
you can suspend to your existing shell with  ^z , returning with  fg .
