With Lynx 2.8.2pre.7 and Sun telnet (I guess) the telnet URL
access from Lynx Links broke in the fashion David described.

Dropping back to command-line access of Sun telnet I got in
fine as described at Lynx Links (give email when asked).

Now for the mystery part:

With Lynx 2.8pre.5 on Win95 and the MS telnet that comes with
Win95, it all worked.

The business with the challenge asking for your email address
may have dredged up some latent bug in the Lynx gateway to 
telnet or the handshake with specific telnets.
