At our site, we currently have well over 3000 machines with IPs.
These IPs change pretty regularly with moving machines/subnets, varying
gateways, etc. Our networking staff have indicated that they believe
the cost of reverse resolving would be the equivalent of the time of
one or two full time employees to keep up the information for all of them,
so they reverse resolve the one public IP; the rest are internal. To date,
management has been unwilling to dedicate that many staff for this purpose.
They have not yet set up a proxy which as far as I can tell would be the
standard resolution for this kind of attitude. Can anyone else think of
alternatives to handle this kind of concern? I would like to argue for
a solution to the problem.
