Lynx should not scroll; are you sure you are talking about Lynx, as fast
scrolling has been a problem for shell accounts since mechanical teletypes
went out of fashion, and programs like more, less, pg, most, etc. exist
to handle that problem.

If you are getting this sort of problem with Lynx it is either because
you have a really dumb terminal emulator, or because the shell account
has a default terminal type corresponding to such a terminal (Lynx has
certain minimum requirements).

In the former case, try using Microsoft's terminal program, whatever their
marketing people have called it for Win95.  This is a badly broken VT100
emulation, but it mostly works for Lynx.  It can be used for vi if you are
prepared to keep repainting the screen (^L).

As mentioned elswhere, DOS Kermit is a very accurate VT100 emulation and is
has a zero price tag (but is not freely distributable).  I assume the
Win32 version is as good, but it is not free.

You are quite likely to get problems with this sort of service as their
business strategy tends to force them towards pushing GUI browsers to their
limits, rather than using standardised features in a portable fashion.
Remember that hotmail is paid for by advertising and advertisers aren't
interested in people who can't afford to run the latest GUI browser and
want flashy graphical effects to attract people.
