S_ISLNK is a macro that some older machines don't have (I thought it was
ifdef'd properly, but I guess not):

something like this (which is in WWW/Library/Implementation/tcp.h, included
in _most_ modules):
        #define S_ISLNK(mode) ((mode & S_IFMT) == S_ISLNK)
