Okay, I just installed pre.6 and seem to be having similar behavior as to
what I described before.

Interesting.
I believe that is what is causing the problem.
However, I just noticed (using pre.6, but I assume this would happen in
pre.4 as well) that following the "Enter" page works every other time,
with the cookies stored.
Again, I attribute this to Lynx reversing the order of the cookies every
run. I have no idea where this is happening, but I'll take a look.
FWIW, the trace log of a working session is identical to the non-working
one I included before, with the exception of the cookies being in reverse
order (thus, the username/pw cookie is being sent first, and not at the
end after the newline.)
Can anyone else verify this behavior? I really doubt it's my particular
setup.
