just calm down a moment (smile). let's get the present situation straight,
which may be a problem in view of the currently misnamed option.
you now have 2 choices: (1) you don't use any configure switch,
with the result that both Form & Menu are compiled into your binary:
you can then choose which you want at any time thro' lynx.cfg ,
but if you don't set anything there you get the Menu;
(2) you set the switch --enable-forms-options ,
which confusingly DISables the MENU:
then all you get is the Form, whatever lynx.cfg says.
that's what i have found using 2-8-1pre.9 .

you said earlier today your big concern is to ensure the Menu is available
in case an anonymous security problem arises for your students,
which is no problem if you choose (1) above with `Menu' in lynx.cfg :
to get that happy outcome you don't need a configure switch,
just default current behaviour.

once you are satisfied the Form is safe to use with your anonymous students
we can drop Menu (as far as your needs go: someone else might object).
of course, if you in fact want to keep Menu because it's a smaller binary,
that would be reason ` 3) ' on your own earlier list, which you omitted.
in that case, we would no doubt keep Menu for you & others like you.

to me using Lynx as i do on the system i use -- others do different things --
the Form seems to be a definite improvement on the Menu
& can supplant the Menu once we're sure it's safe & sound.
but whether we keep it or not, we don't need the current configure switch
unless someone wants specifically to compile ONLY with the Menu.
if you don't want that, is there anyone else who does?

remember the Menu will have to be updated every time we update the Form
& we've run out of space on the 1st Menu screen already,
so there's a Lynx programming premium on eliminating the Menu
if no-one speaks up to say they actually need it (not "might maybe").

which bit(s) of this do you disagree with (smile again)?
