parsing that statement: is this always happening via 'screen'?  I'm
aware of a couple of bugs in screen that get in the way of a few programs.
It _usually_ works ok, but for example, if I run screen at work and
spawn a session here, the vt100 emulation is a little broken (the autowrapping
doesn't seem to be used).

The symptom that you were describing with the editing could happen if
a delete-character got lost by Lynx and it tried to display it.  (That's
what I'll be looking for in your typescript).
