Have you ever been able to actually get lynx to work with Lycos without
changing the User Agent?

I complained about lycos several months back and sent their webmaster some
mail.  Back then, submititng a query resulted in a page not found message.

These days I at least get something back, it's just bogus. 

So, whenever I lose Lycos, I change my user agent to put the current user
agent in parens, and prepend it with Mozilla/4
