I am far from being an expert here, but do you have "proxy" configuration
filled in Netscape Navigator? If yes, try to configure Lynx for proxies:
it uses http_proxy, ftp_proxy,... no_proxy environment variables
(or via lynx.cfg if you have no such environments defined),
check lynx.cfg and INSTALLATION files for word "proxy",
got those files from lynx 2.8.1rel available at http://lynx.browser.org
You may also want to upgrade your Lynx to 2.8.1 or 2.8.2devXX versions,
they are known to work better for different cases including interrupting
of "Looking up..." if compiled with NSL_FORK.
