The Message-Id is not only useful info for humans (if it is that at all).
If HTMLized mailing archives provided the Message-Id in an _easily 
parsable_ manner, then lynx could be made to include it in an In-Reply-To
or References header when replying to an archived messages, so threads
would not be broken.

That functionality would be easy to add to lynx.  But since mailing list
archives don't do it, there's no point adding it to lynx now.

The _easiest to parse_ way would be including the Message-Id in the HTTP
headers.  (Some HTTP servers generate Message-Id headers for each
response, so there is precedence; but those headers may be under the
control of the server application.)  A nearly-as-good way would be
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Message-Id" CONTENT="....">.  It would be important
that different mailing lists archives use the same mechanism.
