It is such an annoyance that I turned it off again.  I had only recently
tried using it, and it seemed that whenever Lynx repainted the screen, it
also was flashing the message about the newmail.  If this has not been the
default behavior, then a bug was introduced somewhere.  If this feature
has always been that way, then really it ought to be fixed to something
more reasonable.

On a similar theme, when procmail is being used to deliver mail to various
mailboxes, then the newmail feature doesn't apply unless something should
arrive in the system default mailbox.  Is there nothing that can be done
about that?
