Well.... on a linux system with some lynx built against recent ncurses (1
month old) and libc6, shell script driving lynx shows problems.

A elm from a couple years ago built against old ncurses (guessing pre 1.9.7
or whatever; it's statically linked against whatever termlib it used) shows
ever worse problems (tty is in line oriented mode).

However, an nvi from 1996 (1.34?) seems to work correctly.

So, 1 out of 3.  It looks like a place to start.
