Subject was lack of https support.

This is quite true; the US government would not allow the export of such
a version and it is not possible to distribute one in the USA because it
would breach the licence under which Lynx is distributed because of the
use of patented algorithms in SSL which are not universally royalty free.

See the web site for possible ways round this.  You will need development
tools for at least some of the solutions.
