Do you have a list of "features" you want to see as compile time options
comparing to the current state?
Do you mean to remove most chartrans tables for CJK users or so?

what a "limited resource machine" do you have in mind?
4 Mb of RAM seems to be not a problem these days.
Do you limited with RAM, diskspace or other resources?

that is 5% only - not so much difference, IMHO.
And I see 0.81 M binary here on Linux with the default lynx configuration.
