lynx-dev lynx under vms

Hi
I am trying to make lynx 2.8 work on an Alpha machine (formerly vax) under
vms. I can make lynx itself run by running LYNXAXPMULTINET.EXE. It runs
great and gets to the internet.
However, I cannot make the bookmarks file work. I am thinking that maybe I
have something set up incorrectly. The following shows my setup :

1. Lynx_Dir is a logical which is set to [clair.lynx2-8.lynx2-8].
   (clair.lynx2-8.lynx2-8] is the lynx directory.

2. I placed file lynx.cfg into this same directory. Maybe that is the
problem. Perhaps lynx.cfg (the name used in a Unix environment) needs to
be renamed to something else. Is the name different on the Alpha ?

3. lynx.cfg points to my bookmarks file, which is called lynx_bookmarks on
   [clair.lynx2-8.lynx2-8]

The entry in lynx.cfg looks as follows :

DEFAULT_BOOKMARK_FILE:LYNX_BOOKMARKS

For some reason, the bookmark file cannot be found by lynx. I don't think
that this is case sensitive.

4. Also, the startfile does not get accessed when I start lynx.
The start file is set as follows in lynx.cfg |:

STARTFILE:http://www.nfl.com I could us any file here. This is just an
example.

5. It appears as though lynx is not using lynx.cfg at all. Does anyone
have any idea why ?

The logical points to it. I think it is in the correct directory. It
points to an existing bookmarks file. It also points to an existiong URL.
I am obviously doing something fundamenatlly wrong. I have been running
lynx successfully on an rs6000 using AIX for years. So maybe I am doing
something Unix-like rather than vms-like.

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong ?

Thank You
