lynx-dev trying to jump in ...

KW having explained how simple the jumps command is,
i thought i'ld have a go, as it would help when looking up the OED.
i have created a file  /homes/purslow/ltest/lynx2-8-2/jumps.html
on this IRIX 5.3 system, which is a copy of the sample jumps file,
with the  ?  line updated & a line added for the OED;  lynx.cfg  says

JUMPFILE:file://localhost/homes/purslow/ltest/lynx2-8-2/jumps.html

unfortunately, Lynx 2-8-2dev.19 keeps telling me
 `Alert! Cannot locate jump file!' , even after a  restart ;
if i use  g  to goto the above URL, the jumps file renders correctly.

Lynx trace gives nothing; strace gives the following lines:

read(0, "j", 1)                         = 1
xstat(2, "file", 0x7fff9fa0)            = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
ioctl(0, 0x4004667f, [0])               = 0
ioctl(0, 0x4004667f, [0])               = 0
write(1, "\rAlert!: Cannot locate jump fil"..., 58) = 58

no doubt i'm overlooking something very simple, but what ... ?
