I haven't looked closely at it yet - if there are no portability or build
problems, I guess it will go in (but some mention of "needs cpp" may make
it non-portable - I haven't looked closely at what you were saying there).

based on 2.8, 2.8.1, it will take about a month after the first pre-release
to stop people showing up with urgent fixes that I don't know about yet.
