I don't exactly understand your complaint.

If someone types "ru", then it makes sense to try "www.ru.com" (or "ru.com",
I don't know exactly what it does..  but this is similar to being able to
type "yahoo" and getting yahoo.com)..

However, if someone types "whatever.ru", then you don't want to add the 
suffixes on.

So it's not really the "ending word" that is the issue, it is the ending
word _with the dot_.  That is, if there is a dot there, then DO NOT 
use the guessing games..  If there is not a dot there, then do the guessing
games.

Doesn't this at least partially solve both problems?  It seems to.  At worst,
it does less guessing, but also it gets rid of a lot of "stupid" guessing.
