probably, you have `stop' as your startpage: check  lynx.cfg .
try starting Lynx with `lynx .' (that's a dot),
which should bring up your current directory;
alternatively, try `lynx file://localhost\PATH\TO\A\FILE'
(i believe those backslashes are correct).

note to EH: it always helps, if you want help, to give a sensible Subject.
note to the Olde Tymers who refuse to countenance a sensible default
for the startpage: i'm waiting to see each one of you reply to this user.
