lynx-dev does Lynx purposely 'eat keys'? |

I start up lynx to my bookmark page, and sometimes go directly to a link number
(i.e. I start up lynx, want to type 54return to go to www.thedigitalbits.com)..
anyhow, if I type the number and return too quickly, it just gets the return,
not what I wanted..
Is there any way I can make it buffer characters?
