Both Netscape and IE go into a two pass mode when presented with a table;
you can tell this because nothing more gets rendered until the whole table
has been formatted. IE5 allows you to indicate well behaved tables, which
can be rendered without a lookahead, but I'm not sure if this is proprietory
HTML or just the HTML 4 COL and COLGROUP elements.
Many commercial pages currently can't be rendered incrementally because of
their use of tables for layout control.
