Ok, I think part of the problem was that I had nopause on on the lynx I was
using at the time (I'm impatient.. heh)..

I'm currently using:
Lynx Version 2.8.3dev.2 (18 Jun 1999)
Built on solaris2.6 Jun 28 1999 17:30:24

And the problem still sort of exists.. I didn't realize at the time that
....hmmm.. the problem only happens part of the time.

     B : Apple II (lynx_bookmarksAppleII.html)

Anyway, my nonexistant file is the above..

I had _thought_ the new missing step was hitting 'b' vs 'B', but that seems
to not exactly be it.

It truly seems like sometimes after hitting 'b' at the bookmark prompt
(after hitting v to get there), it DOESN'T show the prompt, and just
switches to bookmark file A (the default one) and shows only the
current link..

So it's a sporadic problem.

Sorry, neither of these are easy.. Well, the vim one is slightly easy
(I'm a vim enthusiast though I haven't actually used split windows too often)..
I was sort of hoping there was some sort of "yank" ability in Lynx..
(like "yank" one link while looking at a bookmark file, then "put" it
into a different bookmark file.. Even if it had to be done one by one, it
could still be made easier than dealing with the files manually in an editor..)

Thanks for all of the info.. if I ever figure out more reproducible steps to
get this weird nonexistant file problem to happen, I'll post 'em here. I
realize it is not an important problem, but it does seem to be something
that a new user would run into.
