Re emacs: see what I mean about the "kitchen sink" already included, via
contributed extensions (in emacs lisp).
For the tutorial in emacs (long, neat, learn via doing on the
tutorial text itself): control-H t (t for "tutorial", the
^H for "help"; a second ^H gets a list of helps).
