lynx-dev Lynx 2.7.1

We are running AIX 3.2.5 on an RS6000 570.

I recently ftped lynx 2.7.1 from
aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu
/mnt/fs01/lynx/ISC/3.2/src/lynx.2.7.1.tar.Z


I did the make, etc. However, when lynx is invoked
I get the following:

Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host.  
lynx: Can't access startfile http://lynx.browser.org/
                   

lynx http://www.morningside.edu returns the same Alert and error.


lynn -version returns the following:
Lynx Version 2.7.1 (1997)

I am not sure what "what Lynx version you have (try '=' key)" means.
