not really.  There's two main flavors of curses (BSD and SVr4), with
ncurses being the latter.  There are at least two versions of the former
that I've seen on Linux (Slackware): BSD 4.3 and BSD 4.4, with incompatible
headers.  The ncurses versions are in succession reasonably compatible -
but the versions are mostly source-compatible rather than binary-compatible.
Generally there are development versions (with header files) for whatever
you've installed.  If not, you can install a new version of ncurses...
